Tunnel Under Clingmans Dome
Just about everyone has heard of Clingmans Dome thanks to its increasing popularity as a tourist attraction year after year. On the other hand, most don't know about the secret tunnel that runs under the road. Also known as the Thomas Divide Tunnel, this space was initially designed to prevent hikers from needing to cross over Clingmans Dome Road.
Over time, the tunnel became less used but no less accessible. Look for the tunnel about a mile west of the space between Clingmans Dome Road and Newfound Gap Road.
Harrisburg Covered Bridge
While this spot is growing in popularity thanks to the beautiful pictures taken from the bridge, the Harrisburg Covered Bridge remains one of the area's best-kept secrets. The bridge is one of only four covered bridges in Tennessee and is just 15 minutes from downtown Sevierville, making it a breeze to find.
House of the Fairies
This spot requires a little bit of hiking but is worth the trip. The House of the Fairies is part of the Voorheis Estate and boasts a main house, an apple barn, a horse barn, and two guest cabins. Between its rustic charm and location a ways off the Twin Creeks Trail, you'll feel like you've gone on a fun adventure by the end of your journey.
The Troll Bridge at Elkmont
Did you know there's an area in the Smoky Mountains that's practically a ghost town? In the past, the Elkmont area was thriving thanks to its reputation as a resort area for the wealthy. However, once the park came along, the resort abandoned its holding and what once was a popular location became empty.
However, the troll bridge still stands along with a few buildings, making it worth the experience to find this ghost town. If you want to see this hidden gem, venture onto one of the many side trails about 100 feet into the Little River Trail. Follow the path and stay parallel to the stone walls, and you'll find what you're searching for in time.
Mt. Cammerer Fire Tower
You would think that something known as a fire tower would be extraordinary and well-known. Well, you would be half right. The Mt. Cammerer Fire Tower is indeed awesome since it boasts a 360-degree view of the mountains in a quiet locale. If you want to find this beautiful spot, begin your hike at the Low Gap Trailhead. Keep in mind the walk is 11.9 miles roundtrip so bring water and supplies.
